Granuflo dialysis lawsuits. Will injuries lead to MDL or mass tort legal action?

In what may become a significant mass tort or MDL case, the Granuflo and Naturalyte dialysis compounds are firmly in the cross hairs of trial lawyers nationwide. The litigation tied to alleged injuries related to the concentrate, which is used to provide acetic acid for patients dealing with dialysis, is technically a medical device under the FDA standard definition so is being approached in that fashion.

The nature of the reported injuries tend to be severe with patients who are receiving treatment having cardiac arrest in the process, with the suspect reported to be elevated bicarbonate levels which supposedly increase the chance of these problems.

The Legal Broadcast Network recently profile Attorney Rick Kuykendall of Fairhope, AL and Ronnie Penton of New Orleans, LA who are working with other firms to determine the scope of the problems, legal tactics and what the future might hold for those who feel they or family members might have been harmed by this process. We feel that if this indeed is determined to have caused these injuries that this could be a potentially major litigation for an already vulnerable group of patients, as virtually all of the surviving victims would have pre-existing medical problems that would present interesting underwriting options for those of us in the structured settlement industry. We will continue to follow this along, but the docket looks as if it will be handled in Suffolk County, MA to start with the MDL to be determined later.
